3 keys to levelling up your life and business

We live in a competitive world. We are not only competing with businesses locally for our customers but sellers from around the world are all reaching into our pot. How can you keep them out? Or better yet increase your share of customers locally and worldwide so that you not only don’t have to worry about competitors but you become the best choice and most valuable resource in your marketplace.

Over the last decade I have studied and researched more than 400 of the world’s top achievers today and I would like to tell you 3 secrets to levelling  up that will make you a leader in your field.

1) Develop a powerful self -worthSelf-worth is the foundation of all success. If you don’t believe you are worthy of success you will never attempt to create it in your life. You will believe that it is something that is reserved exclusively for others and out of your reach. Self worth is also closely attached to self discipline which is the beginning of the action that is required to become successful. Without self-worth you can’t have self-discipline.  If you can’t master yourself you will never master the outside world. An old Samurai saying sums it up best, “When you defeat the enemy within, no enemy without can harm you.”

Your self-worth also dictates your standards. Your standards ultimately dictate what you will allow in your life and the levels of success you will pursue.

2) Master your skillsThe world is seeking competent people who can solve problems. Not only solve problems but solve the problems with the best and most powerful solution. The problem with many people is that start a business sprinting. When they first come o  the scene they fight for marketshare. They do what they can to learn all there is and demonstrate how much better they are than their competitors, but the instant they start attaining customers they fall into a feeling of comfortable and then slow down. If you slow down and stop developing you will soon become obsolete. You’ve heard the saying that “If you believe it you can achieve it.” That is not entirely true. In fact, the saying should be if you believe it, then get to work and gain the skills, and then you will achieve it.

Your skills place a specific value on you in the eyes of your clients and your competition. The more you increase the skills you have the more you will experience an increase in your income.

Now having said this I am not suggesting you go and develop skills outside your core focus. from the top 400 achievers that I interviewed I found that they went deep into a subject rather than broad. Rather than exiting your comfort zone go deep into your brilliant zone. What are your best gifts? What are your strengths? Why are people currently seeking you out? What does your business really do?

3) Share your message Levelling up for most people really misses this final step. It is where you can actually take your skills to the marketplace. You need to become an expert at sharing who you are and why people should pick you. All too often I observe businesses who have developed themselves and their skills but they remain invisible. If you are going to level up your business and life you must become visible. It’s as simple as that. Your value is no value unless others can benefit.
As I evaluate how to share my message I consider the mediums I can use. (ie. Social media, TV, radio, print, speaking events etc.) I then consider which will have the greatest reach, credibility and build strong relationships. As there are only so many hours in the day and so much money in the budget I try and make the most effective decisions I can. Too many people understand it is important to be in the marketplace, but because they take a very broad shotgun approach they often miss opportunities. Be smarter.

My challenge to you is to level up. Start with yourself, then your skills and then get out there and become visible. You can’t be worried about your competitors. As you level up your life you will find that they will be less of a problem. Mastery equals monopoly. As you level up your life and business you become more of an expert and your customers will recognize this and reward you accordingly.
